Open Plenary - The 1986 Hinton Train Disaster and the development of the Canadian Railway Medical Guidelines for Cardiovascular Disorders
May 24, 2024 from 8:45am MDT to 9:30am MDT
In 1986 there was a tragic train disaster in Hinton, Alberta. A passenger train collided head on with a freight train. In the investigation that followed, it was determined that a number of factors contributed to this avoidable event, including the health of the Locomotive Engineer that operated the freight train. Dr. Lambros will expand on the events that followed the Hinton Train Disaster, the subsequent development of the Railway Medical Guidelines for Cardiovascular Disorders and the increasingly important role that Cardiovascular Nurses play in railway safety in Canada.
